WhatsApp is introducing a more convenient way to access app settings, showcasing its commitment to continuous improvement. Recent beta versions have already brought changes like a new bottom bar and iOS-like context menu for the Android app. The latest update includes a revamped WhatsApp settings menu, along with a new method to open it.
Traditionally, the settings menu for WhatsApp has remained relatively unchanged, as has the way to access it. On Android, it is typically found in the overflow menu (represented by a three-dot icon) located in the upper-right corner of the user interface. However, according to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of the app (v2.23.11.15), available on the Google Play Store, reveals that Meta (formerly known as Facebook) is working on implementing a one-tap option to access WhatsApp settings.
The new button, cleverly disguised as your profile picture, is positioned to the left of the overflow menu icon, as if it has broken free from its previous location. This redesign aims to save users an additional tap when navigating to WhatsApp settings.
Upon tapping the new shortcut, users will discover a revamped settings page with a fresh design. The centerpiece is a prominently displayed, center-aligned preview of the user's profile picture, followed by their account name. The QR code shortcut for the account appears as an overlay on the profile picture preview. Furthermore, the new design introduces slight indentation to the right for all menu items, creating a more spacious and visually appealing menu layout.
WABetaInfo expresses confidence that Meta will also update the appearance of the profile picture and name section, although the current design is already a significant improvement. Currently, users contend with a smaller, left-aligned profile picture preview, left-aligned menu items, and a QR code shortcut located in the far right corner.
As always, there is no exact timeline for when this redesign will roll out to the beta and stable versions of the app. However, it aligns with the ongoing effort to enhance the app's aesthetics. It is possible that Meta will bundle all these visual changes into a single comprehensive update.
