Harrison Ford has defended the de-aging technology used in the upcoming "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" movie, responding to critics who questioned his youthful appearance. Ford dismissed the notion that it was simply "Photoshop magic" and emphasized that the de-aged version accurately represented his look from 35 years ago. He explained that Lucasfilm had access to their extensive film library, allowing for a meticulous and authentic process. Ford praised the skilled utilization of the technology, emphasizing the importance of it being supported by a compelling story to ensure emotional authenticity.
The Post contacted Harrison Ford for a statement regarding the matter.
The movie, which premiered at the renowned festival, had been announced in 2022 and faced several challenges during production. In December, a trailer was released featuring a younger-looking Harrison Ford in a flashback scene.
Producer Kathleen Kennedy expressed her desire for the de-aging technology to seamlessly blend into the film, making viewers believe that it was genuine footage shot four decades ago.
While Harrison Ford appreciates the use of de-aging in his films, he disclosed that he is content with being in his 80s.
"I'm genuinely content with where I am now, and I don't look back and wish to be that person again," commented Ford. "I'm truly happy with my age. I embrace getting older. It was fantastic to be young, but hey, I could be dead, and yet I'm still working."
Despite the franchise's success at the box office, the 80-year-old actor recently expressed his readiness to retire the character of Indiana Jones after the upcoming film.
"This is the final film in the series, and it will be the last time I portray the character. I anticipate that this will be his final appearance on screen," Ford revealed to Total Film.
"I had the ambition to make this film for 10 years, and there came a point when we all committed to it," he added. "It was a joyful moment for me. I believe it's a rare situation that I find myself in."
"I've had the privilege of bringing incredible films to life in collaboration with Steven [Spielberg] and George [Lucas] over a span of 40 years, and my ultimate aspiration for this journey has been to conclude it with a resounding success," added the acclaimed actor known for his role in "Blade Runner."
Ford revealed that once "Dial of Destiny" is released worldwide, he intends to "sit down and take some rest."
The franchise initially made its debut in 1981 with "Raiders of the Lost Ark," which grossed nearly $4 million at the box office.
Fans can expect the highly-anticipated "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" to hit theaters on June 30, 2023, promising an exciting adventure.
