Check out Ariana Grande and her 'Wicked' co-star Jonathan Bailey sharing laughs on the movie set in England.
On Sunday, Jonathan Bailey, known for his role in Bridgerton, was spotted filming scenes as Fiyero for the first time on the set of Wicked. Meanwhile, Grande, who plays Glinda, was seen wearing a tiara, gown, and carrying a sparkly scepter. The two were captured on set in full costume, exchanging laughs and chatting in-between takes.
Grande has been spotted filming scenes for the movie in Buckingham, England multiple times, most recently in April when she was joined by Michelle Yeoh, who is set to portray Madame Morrible in the highly anticipated Broadway movie musical adaptation.
Cynthia Erivo, the co-lead actress of Wicked, was recently seen filming scenes in character as Elphaba on May 3, according to photos published by The Daily Mail.
During Universal Pictures' presentation at CinemaCon 2023 in April, surprise footage from the upcoming movie was shown, revealing Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible for the first time. The rough footage also included glimpses of other main characters, such as Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba.
"They are perfect for these roles," said Universal chairman Donna Langley during the presentation, which also featured a first look at the actresses singing together. "They are brilliant and are supported by an equally brilliant cast."
Wicked director Jon M. Chu (In the Heights) mentioned during the event that the film's setting, Emerald City, creates a "fully immersive experience" as the production continues filming without relying on CGI or blue screens.
During the CinemaCon presentation on April 26, director Jon M. Chu hyped up the audience by saying, "This movie has everything: giant musical numbers, big action pieces. And using a classic story you all know, The Wizard of Oz... And at the end of the day, it's actually not about those things. It's about change and [how] it's necessary for things to get better."
Ahead of the event, Chu gave Wicked fans a sneak peek when he posted two stills from the movie on Instagram, providing the first official look at Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in character. "You weren't told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie... currently in production in Oz. 🌪️🫧🧹," Chu captioned the post.
Wicked: Part 1 is set to release on November 27, 2024.
