Lionel Messi subjected to boos from a section of Paris Saint-Germain fans upon his return from suspension
Lionel Messi's return to Paris Saint-Germain's starting lineup was met with a challenging reception from some of the club's fans. The Argentine was booed by a section of the supporters before and during PSG's dominant victory over Ajaccio at Parc des Princes.
Messi's club-imposed suspension, resulting from an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia and a missed training session, was lifted for the first time in this match. The World Cup-winning forward has since apologized to both his teammates and PSG, explaining that he "genuinely believed" he had a day off.
Despite moving closer to a record 11th Ligue 1 title with their 5-0 win on Saturday, some PSG fans made their displeasure known.
Messi receives boos from a section of PSG fans again, following similar incident with Neymar earlier this season
This is not the first time Lionel Messi has been subjected to jeers from a group of Paris Saint-Germain supporters. In March, both Messi and Neymar faced boos from a significant portion of the club's fans.
Last week, rumors circulated that Messi had already agreed to join a Saudi Arabian club once his contract with PSG expires on June 30. However, representatives of the Argentine dismissed these claims.
In the match against Ajaccio on Saturday, PSG secured a comfortable victory with goals from Fabián Ruiz and Achraf Hakimi in the first half, followed by a Kylian Mbappé brace and an own goal from Mohamed Youssouf. The win took the club's total points to 81, putting them six points ahead of second-placed Lens with three games remaining.
Late in the game, both PSG's Hakimi and Ajaccio's Thomas Mangani received red cards, leaving both teams with 10 men.
