The Scorsese film featuring Leonardo DiCaprio was almost co-starred by Brad Pitt, but he turned down the opportunity and the role was eventually given to Matt Damon.
Back in 2006, Brad Pitt had the chance to star in one of Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's acclaimed works. However, plans changed during the latter stages of the casting process.
The movie that Pitt declined was 'The Departed', in which he was originally intended to portray Colin Sullivan, a character that was later played by Matt Damon.
In 2003, Pitt, along with Warner Bros. and producer Brad Grey, had acquired the rights for the American adaptation of the Asian film 'Infernal Affairs', but eventually decided that the role was better suited for a younger actor.
Nevertheless, despite the movie's enormous triumph, Brad Pitt has no remorse about declining the role, despite the fact that 'The Departed' earned Academy Awards for 'Best Picture' and 'Best Director'.
"I worked on that film for two and a half years, we struggled to get it made, and then we brought William Monahan on board for the screenplay," Pitt stated in a 2012 Interview Magazine interview.
"After Scorsese came onboard, I thought it would be better if the characters were portrayed by younger actors who were just starting their careers, fresh out of the academy, hungry. I felt I was too old for the part."
