The first glimpse of Amber Heard's return as Mera in Aquaman 2 has been released in a new trailer for the upcoming film, titled "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom." Despite rumors of the movie's poor test screenings and concerns that it could be one of the worst films in the DCEU, the trailer confirms that Heard's role has not been reduced or removed from the controversial sequel. Warner Bros. Discovery has faced difficulties in handling Heard's character and screen time, but it seems they have finally settled on keeping her role intact. The rumored reboot of the franchise may see Jason Momoa cast as a different character in future DC projects, due to the reported poor reception of Aquaman 2.

Warner Bros. Discovery debuted the first trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom exclusively to attendees at CinemaCon 2023, showcasing the film on an epic scale. The trailer features Randall Park's Dr. Stephen Shin and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta attacking the surface world with destructive tentacles and a powerful Black Trident. The teaser also includes a glimpse of Nicole Kidman reprising her role as Atlanna. Jason Momoa's Aquaman is seen contemplating his role as the new king of Atlantis and expresses concerns to his father about the shifting tide. In order to stop Manta, Aquaman must team up with his estranged step-brother, Patrick Wilson's Orm.

What are others reading:

In the trailer, the relationship between Aquaman and Orm has a buddy-comedy feel, with Aquaman declaring "No one hits my brother but me!" Orm is also shown to be supportive of his brother, saying "If you lead, Atlantis will follow." The trailer quickly cuts to various settings including zombies, a tropical jungle, the frigid Arctic, and a massive war on land and sea, showcasing the grand scale of the sequel. The teaser also offers a glimpse of Amber Heard's Mera donning a new white suit, while the trailer ends with Aquaman in his classic suit fighting Black Manta in a head-to-head battle. It's exciting to see Black Manta, one of the most notorious villains in the comic book world, finally getting his moment to shine in the spotlight.

In the original Aquaman film, Abdul-Mateen played a minor villain, but in the sequel, his character appears to have discovered a new power with the help of Park's Dr. Shin, and together they seek to challenge the world and the king of Atlantis. The tentacles featured in the trailer may belong to a new deep-sea creature that could rival Julie Andrews' Karathen. Additionally, the appearance of zombies suggests a new twist, which could be related to the corrupting influence of the new Black Trident.
