The highly anticipated screen adaptation of the Broadway musical "Wicked" has left fans in disbelief after a sneak peek of the film set was released. Many are already calling it the movie of the decade.
Set to be directed by Jon M Chu, the two-part movie was announced in 2022 and will feature Ariana Grande as Glinda the Good Witch and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West. Fans of the show are eagerly awaiting the release of the film adaptation.
Pop Base shared a video on Twitter on Tuesday (11 April), featuring an aerial view of what seems to be a remarkable replica of Munchkinland, the birthplace of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.
The video also shows the iconic Yellow Brick Road, a central element of the classic story The Wizard of Oz, running through the heart of the imaginary city.
The caption of the video, "New look at the set for WICKED starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo," has stirred up great excitement among fans, who have been left amazed by the spectacle. "Oh, this movie is going to break records," exclaimed one viewer, while another declared it the "movie of the decade" even before its release.
A third fan expressed their admiration, calling the set "so pretty," while another viewer insisted that the "set designers need a raiseeee."
The first part of the film is slated for release in theaters on December 25th, 2024, followed by the second part a year later.
Director Jon M Chu explained his decision to split the movie into two parts, stating that attempting to condense the intricate plot of Wicked into a single film would have resulted in detrimental cuts to the source material. Fans were initially unhappy with the news, arguing that it was "utterly unnecessary."
Meanwhile, Ariana Grande recently addressed concerns about her health in a rare statement issued to fans. The first glimpse of the set has generated a lot of excitement among Wicked enthusiasts.
