Samsung has unveiled its latest generation of folding smartphone with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, available in Irish stores later this month.

The device is 12% bigger than the tech giant’s previous effort, the Galaxy Fold, with a 6.2-inch cover screen when folded and a 7.6-inch main screen on the back when opened out.

The main screen has a 120Hz adaptable refresh rate for smooth scrolling, streaming and gameplay as well as small bezels and a notch-less front camera to maximise the display.

The main screen is fitted with Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass for durability when folding, and the Hideaway Hinger fits seamlessly into the device body.

The phone’s sweeper technology repels dust and other undesirable particles while taking up less space than previous versions of the technology.

‘The journey to reach the next generation of smartphones is full of originality and innovation,’ said Samsung Electronics corporate VP for the UK & Ireland Conor Pierce said.

‘With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G, we listened closely to customer’s feedback to ensure we were bringing meaningful improvements to the device, while also developing new innovations to enhance the user experience.

‘Further strengthened by our industry-leading partnerships with Google and Microsoft, we’re reshaping and redefining the possibilities of the mobile device experience.’

The Fold2 has two 10MP selfie cameras, one of each side, and a rear triple camera consisting of ultra wide camera, wide-angle camera and telephoto camera — all 12MP.

The device has 12GB of RAM with 256GB internal storage, a 4,500mAh dual battery as well as super fast wired charging and fast wireless charging.
