This Friday, September 25, 2020, Lily Collins announced in a post on Instagram that she was engaged to film director Charlie McDowell. A close up picture of her revealed the unique, non-traditional ring, which has left gemologists trying to figure out its worth quite puzzled.
The special sparkler has a distinctive square-shaped stone in the middle, adorned by a thick yellow-gold band - and Collins looks like she couldn't be happier about it.
As per Page Six, Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell's son, Charlie McDowell, got in touch with the famous celebrity jeweler, Irene Neuwirth, to get a custom-made ring for Collins. According to the jeweler, the engagement ring is one-of-a-kind rose-cut diamond.
In appreciation of the ring, McDowell, 37, wrote a note of gratitude to Neuwirth in an Instagram post, saying, "Thank you for making the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen." Collins added, "Thank you from the bottom of my heart SO much for the most stunning, perfect ring. It’s breathtaking."
Looks like the ring is indeed rare and one-of-a-kind, but the neither jeweler nor the stars have revealed the true cost of the rock yet.
Ajay Anand, Founder and CEO of Rare Carat, a diamond search engine, chimed in to share his study of the ring, and stated that it could be worth anywhere between just a few thousand dollars to a hundred thousand dollars.
"First, this is a nontraditional engagement ring — an unusual choice for a celebrity," Anand said to Insider. "It's a cushion-shaped stone in a yellow-gold bezel setting, with an open-back cut so you can see through to the skin. It's a rare flatter cut and in the four-carat range — putting the retail value between $50,000 to $100,000."
No matter what its worth, it looks like Phil Collins' daughter is stoked to have settled down with the man she loves. She shared a series of photos of herself with McDowell, revealing the special moment to fans on Instagram. The ring, although eccentric, perfectly matches with the Emily in Paris star's other jewelry that can be seen in the close-up photo.
The couple first hinted about their relationship last year in August in an Instagram post. A year after that, and they're engaged! The couple has received immense love and blessings from their fans and loved ones.
