Christina Aguilera is opening up about her alleged feud with Britney Spears
They may have starred in The Mickey Mouse Club together in their early teens, but by the time Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera had become household names, their relationship appeared to have turned sour, with the latter never failing to seize the opportunity to slam the Lucky singer in her interviews.
Whether it was to discredit Britney’s stage presence to dissing the engagement ring she bought herself after her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, proposed to her, Christina Aguilera, who is reportedly worth $160 million, always had something to say… and it was usually never positive.
It wasn’t until 2003 when the Fighter hitmaker publicly took a swipe at Britney Spears for her unforgettable kiss with Madonna at the Video Music Awards. However, it should be mentioned that Xtina also locked lips with the Queen of Pop: It just so happened that nobody remembered it since fans were so caught up in the recent breakup between Britney and Justin Timberlake at the time.
What Did Christina Aguilera Say About Britney Spears?
In an interview with Blender magazine, Christina Aguilera was the first to throw shots at her former co-star when she gushed about her experience working with Britney Spears as they prepared for the show-stopping VMA performance.
According to the mother-of-two, however, Britney Spears gave the impression that she felt uncomfortable and somewhat nervous even to be there.
"Every time I tried to start a conversation with her — well, let's just say she seemed nervous the whole time,” Christina Aguilera told the publication. "She seems to me like a lost little girl, someone who desperate needs guidance.”
Some claimed that Christina’s harsh words were only made because she was upset over her kiss with Madonna being overshadowed by Britney’s smooch.
Again, Justin and Britney Spears had just called it quits at the time, so when the two blondes locked lips, the camera panned to Justin’s reaction while missing several seconds of the kiss Christina Aguilera shared with Madge, so it seems evident that she wasn’t happy with her camera time being cut because of Britney’s love life drama.
Another thing that made people think there was a feud between Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears was that the Beautiful chart-topper went on the road with Justin for their Justified & Stripped Tour from June 2003 until September 2003.
This, once again, gave Britney’s fans the impression that Christina Aguilera clearly wasn’t on #TeamBritney, and the comments she reportedly made to Blender magazine appeared to prove just that.
It was also rumored that JT and CA shared a short-lived fling shortly after his split from Britney Spears, but that was never confirmed or denied. But would it be hard to believe that the two could have been seeing one another considering they were already touring together?
After all, Christina Aguilera certainly didn’t shy away from the fact that she wasn’t fond of Britney.
In 2004, when Britney Spears got engaged with her former backup dancer, Kevin Federline, it was no secret that she had bought the engagement ring herself — but according to reports, when Christina was asked what she thought about the piece of jewelry, she responded by saying that the rock “looked like she got it at QVC.”
For the most part, Britney has always kept things classy as far as her feud with Christina was concerned, having opted no to bash or slam the singer in public interviews.
Sources did stress that Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have never really been friends, so when the latter started making some not-so-nice remarks about the 38-year-old in public, she wasn’t taken aback by the comments because she’s never shared a relationship with her that was close enough for her to care too deeply on what had been said.
And while Christina continued to share her views about Britney in interviews, things eventually came to a standstill in 2008 when the public insults had stopped.
In August 2018, Christina Aguilera claimed that the feud between her and Britney Spears didn’t stem from any personal issues; supposedly, the media had “pitted” both women against each other and supposedly villainized Xtina to be the mean girl while Britney was deemed as the innocent one.
"It's hard to hear yourself being called names. I remember being hurt by these commercials on MTV, pitting Britney as the good girl and me as the bad girl. It's like, if I'm going to be demure and innocent, that's okay,” she told Cosmopolitan. “But if I'm going to just be myself, I'm trouble.”
Regarding their relationship today, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera aren’t on speaking terms, but from what the latter has said, they are still friendly and tend to share a few words here and there if they happen to run into each other at an event.
But other than that, there’s no friendship between the two.
