George Clooney and Jessica Simpson almost starred in The Notebook.
As one of the most famous movies in the world, The Notebook has become a classic film. It shows the story of two star crossed lovers who waited for each other despite all the years of not seeing each other.
The story was brought to life than none other than Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, who have solidified their presence in the Hollywood industry after the movie.
But did you know that the cast could have been a totally different group of actors and actresses?
In an interview with Deadline, George Clooney reveals that he was offered the role of Noah Calhoun in The Notebook.
The actor shared that he was to play the younger Noah in the movie and famous actor Paul Newman was to play the older version.
George Clooney explained that he was excited working on the project and was able to meet with Newman before production started.
He said he had a discussion with his fellow actor. Clooney continued by saying that Newman was one of the finest actors he has ever met and one of the most handsome.
On their second meeting, George Clooney realized that he could not play the role and that he and Newman did not look alike. He ended up turning down the project.
The part ended up eventually on Ryan Gosling’s lap. According to the actor, he was chosen for the role after director Nick Cassavetes found him unattractive and just a ‘regular looking guy,’ citing it was the perfect look for the role.
It was also rumored that country-pop singer Jessica Simpson was to play Noah’s love interest in The Notebook. Simpson was supposedly going to play Allie.
Simpson, who was offered the role, turned it down for one reason. According to the singer, she was not ready to do a sex scene. She revealed that the production team was not going to budge and that they have no plans of removing the scene.
Speaking to FoxNews, Jessica Simpson explained that she and Gosling already met a long time ago, during their Mickey Mouse Club days, and he was her crush back then.
She was too shy to do the sex scene with the actor, considering that the singer is very conservative.
The role of Allie went to Rachel McAdams.
The Notebook would have been a totally different movie if Gosling and McAdams were not cast, and there is no way of knowing if it would have been as successful as it is if it happened.
