Johnny Depp, the Pirates of the Caribbean star, initially allotted a $100 million budget when he filed a libel case against The Sun. This amount, allegedly, covers the actor’s lawyer’s fees, court costs, and more, According to National Enquirer.
But earlier this month, it was revealed that Johnny Depp lost his case against the publication. However, the Edward Scissorhands star vowed to fight in court by appealing his case.
A source for the tabloid claimed that appealing his case would mean that Johnny Depp would have to spend more than $100 million. And since there’s a risk that he could once again lose, Johnny Depp could, allegedly, end up broke.
On top of this, Johnny Depp also has a defamation case against Heard in Virginia, and the hearing will commence in May 2021. Heard countersued Depp in the case, which means that it will be a lengthy court hearing for the couple. And they would have to shell out more cash.
The source said that Heard’s legal team is doing everything they can to make sure that the actress will win the case. And they’re also celebrating after learning that Johnny Depp lost to The Sun earlier this month.
However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt. After all, there is no concrete proof that Johnny Depp is struggling with his finances.
The tabloid claimed that the award-winning actor is worth $200 million. And while this is true, there is still no word as to how his recent loss would affect his earnings.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp also revealed that he was asked to resign from his role in Fantastic Beasts after losing his libel case against The Sun. And losing his role in the movie also means more financial losses for the actor.
According to Variety, the franchise may have decided to part ways with Johnny Depp due to their no-tolerance policy with regards to this type of controversy. Gone were the days when franchises tolerated the deeds of controversial actors like Johnny Depp. But in recent years, this tolerance has reportedly worn off.
Three years ago, Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling expressed his confidence in the studio and Johnny Depp working together even amid all the controversies. But according to reports, Rowling was one of the people who signed off on the decision to let Depp go after he lost his libel case.
